Wild Sounds Safari: Dunston Staiths

Immerse yourself in the incredible, wild acoustic spectacle of the Tyne Estuary on a changing tide, on a Wild Sounds Safari with Wild Intrigue. Throughout autumn and winter, the urban River Tyne becomes a feeding ground for flocks of migrant birds, including Curlew, Lapwing, Redshank and a diversity of gulls, alongside Cormorants, Mute Swans and others.

Using a single parabolic dish and wireless headphones, your experienced guide will bring the calls and activities of birds 10x closer to your ears, on this truly immersive, tranquil group experience.

At the end of the experience, you will have the opportunity to find out more about the birds encountered, and to learn how the Tyne estuary, influenced by our industrial heritage, is a wonderful urban, wildlife watching location.

Please note there are no toilets available to use throughout the duration of this event. The walk encompasses flat, paved terrain. In the case of bad weather (heavy wind and/ or rain) we will unfortunately need to postpone the event, and you will be notified by email the day prior.

Suitable for ages 14+, under 18's must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.

The meeting point for this event is on the open promenade along the river, opposite the Staiths Café. The exact meeting point can be found on What3Words.

This is a paid for event and will cost up to £12 per person. See our tiered pricing guide for details.

What to bring:

  • sturdy footwear: for walking comfortably
