Join us to see the 'Coal Staiths of the Tyne' photography exhibition by Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen and meet the artist as Sirkka joins us to talk through what photographing the Staiths was like as a young artist in the 1970s.
The 'Coal Staiths of the Tyne' photography exhibition is currently on display at the new community space, Tyne Derwent Way at Dunston Staiths. See 19 of Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen's photographs Dunston Staiths in the 1970s, while the Staiths were still actively transporting coal.
Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen is a Finish photographer recording the Tyneside and British landscapes since 1960s. Her most famous works are an exhibition of Byker Revisited, the Dunston Staiths, Dance Schools in North Shields, Coalfield Stories and many more.
This event will take place in our new community space: Tyne Derwent Way at Dunston Staiths, Staithes Rd, Dunston, Gateshead NE11 9DR (https://w3w.co/jokes.spoil.waving) - look for our new sign by Dunston Excelsior Club!
You'll have half an hour to look at the exhibition and explore the space, and Sirrka will be speaking from 11am.
