Dunston Staiths opening on Saturday 7 June
Dunston Staiths will open on the first Saturday of the month from now through to September.
Stand on the historic structure on the Tyne and feel the heritage of coal come to life around you. This old timber structure has uneven surfaces and we ask everyone to wear sensible shoes for their visit and be aware of trip hazards.
In the case of bad/extreme weather we won't be able to open. Please check this website and our Social Media channels for the most up to date information prior to your visit.
Meet at Dunston Staiths - the west end; what3words
Whilst entry is suitable for all, with wheelchair accessible entry for bottom and top deck via Saltmarsh Gardens, please note that there are steps between the two decks. General access is more restricted than usual, due to repair works needed at certain points along the walkway, including one section where marshals will lead small groups for safety reasons.
There is a £3 entry charge with all proceeds going into making the Staiths open to access and to help pay for essential maintenance work. However, if you live in an NE8 or NE11 postcode you can get on for free - please bring an official letter/ bill with you as proof of address.
Opening dates, all 10am - 2pm:
Saturday 7 June
Saturday 5 July
Saturday 2 August
Saturday 6 September
Saturday 13 September (additional opening for Heritage Open Days)
We are always looking for new volunteers to help open the Staiths to the public. If you would like to get involved, please contact: stewart.turbull@nationaltrust.org.uk for more information.
