Get involved
There are lots of ways to get involved in the Tyne Derwent Way. Volunteer for our 'turn up and do' events, become a regular volunteer or join our community steering group.
Turn up and do - Working with a nature positive focus
Join our Saturday Green Team. We are now working with Wild Intrigue. Our hope is, with their knowledge and expertise, we will be able to offer more than just litter-picks, such as, nature positive maintenance of pathways and hedges along the way.
We meet on the third Saturday of each month from 9:45am for a 10 o'clock start. We finish at 12 noon! It's great way to spend time outdoors, enjoy light exercise, and meet others who are eager to make a positive impact on Gateshead's local green spaces, just like you. Just turn up and let's make a difference together! Each session focuses on a different area so, please see our website and social media channels to find out the details for each meeting. We've got you covered with tools and PPE. Got questions? Send an email to stewart.turnbull@nationaltrust.org.uk
Next Saturday Green Team activity
Our next activity is planned for Saturday 16 November, 10am - 12 noon. This session will be a tidy-up and litter-pick, focussed on St Mary's Heritage Centre graveyard.
Our meeting point will St Mary's Centre, see our Google and What 3 Words links for the exact location.
As we are meeting at St Mary's, Stew from the National Trust will be on site from 09:45 for a 10am start and will have coffee, teas and refreshments for all before we start. Cain, from Wild intrigue, will be joining us and this will be a great opportunity to share with you some of the plans we have for re-wilding the graveyard space. Today's tasks will include clearing leaves and vegetation on site as well as a regular litter pick.
It would be great to know in advance, if possible, if you are planning to come along, you can email: stewart.turnbull@nationaltrust.org.uk or text/leave a voice message on: 07880 278 216. However, please feel free to just turn up on the day if you prefer. And, if you fancy bringing someone else along, we'd love to meet them, the more the merrier. Please, spread the word.
Please note, this will be our last Green Team meeting of the year. Our next session will be on Saturday 18 January 2025.
