A round of a-paws for our dog show contestants!

Organised by the Tyne Derwent Way team and fabulous local volunteers, the dog show returned for another hugely enjoyable afternoon, while the Staiths opened up for visitors to enjoy for the final time this year.
The green in front of the Staiths welcomed delightful doggies of all shapes and sizes, ages and colours. After a soggy start, the sun eventually came out for the last couple of rounds.
And the winners were...
Thanks everyone who took part for making it such a memorable event. We had ruff-ly 60 adorable dogs taking part in the show across eight categories, giving our judges a lot of very difficult decisions to make. The winners in each category were:
- Dog who looks most like their owner: Lucy, with owner Hazel
- Bonniest bitch: Frida (owner Colette)
- Handsomest dog: Loki (owner Amie)
- Cutest cross breed: Charlie (owner Diane)
- Adorable puppy: Ghost (owner Trish)
- Best rescue: Bueno (owner Jasmine)
- Short and sweet: (owner Aarti)
Golden oldie: Frankie (owner Carla)
And congratulations to Frankie for being our best-in-show champion!

Our huge thanks to:
- the Staiths Café for donating the best-in-show prize, along with prize doggy bags for the winner of each category
- Andy Smith, our brilliant MC
- all our judges, including Mark Ferguson MP and the dog show's founder, Virginia Wilkinson, and our stewards, both at the dog show and the Heritage Open Day, including Virginia and Roger - we couldn't have done it without you!
- Treats by the Tyne, Big Local Gateshead, and Teams and Dunston Alive, for running stalls
- everyone who supported the event, and all our open days on the Staiths this year
All profits from the day will go towards caring for Dunston Staiths.
