Join local wildlife guides, Wild Intrigue, for a morning immersed in nature along the Gateshead Quayside. Guided Bird Walks are hosted monthly, as an opportunity to observe and learn more about the diverse, seasonal birdlife along this stretch of the Tyne Derwent Way. Whether you're a seasoned birder or a curious beginner, these events welcome all skill levels!

In alternating months, we will hosting Guided Bird Walks in two locations: Gateshead Riverside Park and Dunston Staiths.

On Guided Bird Walks at Gateshead Riverside Park we will discover the birdlife which relies on this wonderful green corridor, which provides a buffer and connecting route for an array of species from the urban landscape into the the rural reaches of Gateshead and Newcastle. Guided Bird Walks at Dunston Staiths will take place along riverside footpaths, and encompass the Tyne Estuary and the waders, gulls and other species which rely on these important tidal mudflats, along with the birdlife which takes advantage of the surrounding scrub and woodland.

You will learn tips in identifying birds by their appearance and calls, along with intriguing insights into the ecology of each species. Throughout the walk we'll record the birds we encounter to better understand how wildlife uses Gateshead Riverside Park. These records will also be submitted to the North East Environmental Records Information Centre (ERIC), which will help to better understand and protect our local wildlife into the future.

These monthly events are free and open to all to attend. No booking is required, just come along to the meeting point for a 9am start.
